Upon entering English C1000, I was a computer science major who felt very confident with logic and programming but far from certain in my ability to articulate what I wanted to say. I had two specific goals for the quarter: firstly, reading critically and stopping to think carefully about what any text actually says; and secondly, writing clearly in order to make an argument rather than simply relay facts. As someone who has a natural interest in robotics and AI, where one careless assumption can spoil an entire system, I surprisingly found that the same ability is highly relevant when it comes to reading and writing, which can be compromised by any unverified source or inaccurate assumption being made.

This portfolio is a compilation of evidence of that progress. It consists of two argumentative essays, one piece of close analysis, and one reflective essay describing a series of experiences during the semester, demonstrating the shift from a focus on summarizing information from sources to having them talk to each other.
